Services

At the Family Medicine Center at Asylum Hill, we provide a wide array of services in our office.

If a service cannot be provided within the practice, referral will be made to the appropriate physician or facility. Our services include

Pediatric care - We recognize that children are special people and not just small adults. Our clinical staff is excellent at attending to the needs of children, and our providers are well trained to address issues of illness and health in children of all ages. We follow the recommendations of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics when providing health care for our pediatric patients.

Adolescent care - As Family Physicians, we have the privilege of caring for adolescents as they grow into adulthood. One of the advantages of seeking care with a family practice is that young children can easily transition into adolescence and young adulthood with the same clinician that they have known for many years. This makes it easier for them to become partners in their health care.

Adult care - We provide comprehensive care to adults, including acute care and care for chronic illnesses as well as health maintenance services. We encourage our patients to be active participants in their care and any decision making.

Geriatric care - As family-oriented clinicians, we provide care to people of all ages. It is one of our greatest joys to provide care to our older patients, many of whom we have known for many years.

Obstetrical and Gynecologic care - We provide gynecologic care to women of all ages. In addition to routine gynecologic exams (including Pap smears and breast examinations), we treat acute gynecologic problems and provide ongoing women's health care. We are skilled in dealing with issues of sexuality, contraception and menopause. We also provide obstetrical services. (See Special Services.)

Dermatologic care - We are able to treat many common skin problems including acne and rashes. We also perform biopsies of questionable skin lesions, lance abscesses as well as other ski procedures.

Emergency care - We provide some emergency services within the office, including treatment of some lacerations and orthopedic injuries. We ask that you call the office before coming in for an emergency because we need to assess whether an office visit is appropriate for that problem or if an emergency room visit is a better option.

Urgent care - Every day that the office is open there are appointments that are set aside for urgent visits. We do this so that patients who call for an urgent medical problems can be accommodated as quickly as possible. We encourage you to call the office for an appointment rather than making a visit to an urgent care center, Minute Clinic or emergency room.

Orthopedic services - We can evaluate musculoskeletal problems, order x-rays when appropriate and initiate treatment for many orthopedic problems. While we do not apply casts or do surgery, we can apply splints and treat other routine orthopedic problems.

Laboratory services - We provide some testing in the office including blood sugar and A1c testing for diabetic patients, urine testing, pregnancy tests, blood counts, strep tests and influenza tests.  There is a laboratory drawing station (Collaborative Laboratories) on-site in the office for your convenience.

Hospital care - We provide care in the hospital as well as in the office. We feel that it is important to continue to take care of our patients during this stressful time. We have a team of physicians who care for our hospitalized patients at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. When needed, the appropriate sub-specialist may be consulted, but your family physician team will continue to be the head of your health care team.
